ICMP blocked from off campus networks to EECS (Fri Feb 3 17:44 2006)

Off Campus ICMP blocked:

In an effort to thwart continued ICMP attacks through our firewall, we have temporarily
blocked ICMP from off campus networks to EECS. This post will be updated
when we return to our normal configuration.

Update: Degraded network performance due to DoS attacks (Fri Feb 3 13:42 2006)

Firewall issue resolved:

With a team effort, the problem was traced to DoS attack from Canada
which was sinking the firewall. Many thanks to all who helped solve
the problem.

Degraded performance due to DoS attacks (Fri Feb 3 09:36 2006)

Summary:

High number of off-campus DoS (Denial Of Service) attacks causing
network slowdown.

Details:

We are currently seeing a high number of DoS (Denial Of Service)
attacks coming from off campus and these are impeding the performance
of our firewall. As such, there is intermittent connectivity from EECS
to campus and the Internet. We are investigating to remedy the
problem.
