the kernel on the cluster has been upgraded from 2.2.5 to 2.2.17 with a
patch to incorporate the the latest nfs client work from Trond, the latest
nfs server work from Neil Brown, and the NLM4 server-side locking code from
SGI.

The Millennium Project exhibited a 17-node Compaq cluster at Supercomputing
2000 in Dallas. This was a collaborative effort with the Rocks
Cluster effort at San Diego Supercomputer
Center.

The mpich installation on the cluster now uses rexec
to initiate mpi runs. Using rexec greatly simplifies key-management
and decreases the time to initialize mpi jobs.

The Math Millennium cluster is configured and running. The front-end is

The Berkeley ISTORE Project
will be moving over a hundred istore machines to the Millennium network. The
ISTORE project is building adaptive, highly-available, self-maintaining,
self-tuning back-end servers for storage-intensive network services.

Philip Buonadonna was
awarded the Best Poster Award at the National Partnership for Advanced
Computational Infrastructure (NPACI) All
Hands Meeting 2000 held at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. His
poster, entitled Cluster Network I/O, proposed solutions for
high-performance, scalable communication on commodity-node distributed
systems.

Satoshi Matsuoka, a professor from Tokyo Institute of Technology, will be
visiting. Matt Welsh had the opportunity to work with Mr.
Matsuoka and his group on the OpenJIT
project in Japan over the summer.
- December 02nd, 1999
A fast implementation of MPI has been installed. It uses the GM 1.1.1 fast
communication layer and is integrated with the REXEC
remote execution system. The MPI
tutorial will help get you started using MPI on Millennium.
- Myrinet networks have been installed on both the priced (mm1 to mm14) and
unpriced (mm15 to mm28) clusters. Myricom's GM 1.1.1 is the communication
layer (32
us RTT, 59.5 MB/s pt-to-pt BW). Each node has a single LANai 7.2 NIC.
Both clusters are each connected on their own 16-port switch.

The linux kernel on mm3-mm16 has been changed. They all have the expanded
shared memory segments now. The systems have been rebooted and are ready for
